How to install RAM Drive in Windows XP

Even in Windows XP sometime we need to use RAM Disk Drive . RAM Disk Drive is virtual disk drive which is placed in RAM memory and he have to be accessed like normal disk from Windows Explorer or any other file management program by selecting this Disk Drive letter. How to install RAM Drive in Windows XP

After installtion of RAM Disk go to Control Panel / RAM Disk and click on [Enable RAM DISK] (if is not checked) to turn on RAM Disk Drive. Next in [General] tab set [Startup Type] (leave on Automatic in most cases) and set [Operation Mode] to be RAM Disk mode.

How to install RAM Drive in Windows XP

In [Geometry] tab you can set the size of RAM Disk. This is most important settings and from this setting depends how many and large files you can store in your RAM Disk Drive. Please note, that each one Mb of you RAM memory is transfered to your RAM Disk Drive will take one Mb from available RAM memory and any application which is memory critical can be crashed or slowed.

Other settings like [Bytes per Sector], [Sectors per Track] and [Tracks per Cylinder] is good to be leaved with default values.

How to install RAM Drive in Windows XP

In [File System] tab you can set RAM Disk [Volume] which will be displayed in Windows Explorer for this drive. Leave other settings like they are. Now you are ready to use your RAM Disk Drive.
