Transparent Icon Labels in Windows XP [1/2]

Windows XP can show your desktop icon labels with a transparent background and with no colored rectangle under the icon names .

If you set some picture for a desktop background, this looks more nice when you have no colored rectangles between icon labels and your desktop background . Sometimes , when your system is not configured correctly , you will get those ugly colored rectangles . This happen when your needs require using Active Desktop .

Like you see on picture below Icon Labels are not transparent, because they overlay the background picture and this is so ugly. Now we will correct this.

If you found this problem in your system, first make sure the Drop-Shadow option is enabled . To check this follow this steps :

1 . Right-click My Computer .
2 . Select Properties from the menu .
3 . Go to the Advanced tab in the Properties dialog .
4 . Press Settings button in the Performance panel .
5 . Go to the Visual Effects tab in the Settings dialog .
6 . Check the box - Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop .
7 . Press OK , OK .
