In this tutorial we will discuss the keywords in Meta tags. It is continue of On-page optimization tutorial.
There are two keyword meta tags related to the on-page optimization. The first one is:
Keyword in Description meta tag.
Description meta tag is a part of every web page which is well optimized it is often used. It must be less than 200 characters because if not your page can be penalized.
Examinations have shown that Google no longer rely on that tag, but it is still used by many directories and some of the search engines.
Anyway the description meta tag is important and needs to be unique for each page with own description of it. Make it unique and interesting and combined with the other SE requirements will help you for the complete the on-page optimization of your site.
The source code if this meta tag look like that in the source code of your page:

Keyword in Keyword meta tag.
Keyword Meta tags are special part of the page source, but they do not affect the way how a page will be displayed. It is used only by the SE crawlers and bots which are visiting the page in order to collect information about the contents of the page.
Some specialist are thinking that Goolge with gather as much relevant information as it can and rank the page depending the results. Other SEO gurus say that Google will no longer use this tag, but the rest search engines like Live, Ask, Yahoo, etc. will do.
Keyword Meta tags should be not more that 8-11 words. Also all the words in this tag have to appear in the body text of the page, because if they are not the SE may decide the keywords as a spam.
Another thing is that every keyword should not appear more than twice in the - again a page can be penalized from the SE.
