In this tutorial I will demonstrate you how to take screen shots with PrintScreen button the same way as it does in Gnome KDE. I have been a Gnome user ever since I started using Linux as primary operating system. I do not know why exactly I choose Gnome since as most of you I have used Windows XP and 98 before, so KDE was the more intuitive migration. Anyway that was a long time ago.

Probably as any Linux Desktop user I was thrilled to try the new features that KDE 4 could offer. KDE 4.0 sucked, KDE 4.1 sucked too, KDE 4.2 was ok and now KDE 4.3 rocks. I have used it for a week now but I love it.

You could really tell that I'm a Gnome user from the picture above.

I wanted to make a screenshot to send it to my friends and I was really surprised that when I hit Print Screen button nothing happened. I quickly checked in KWin what the proper combination was. There it said I had to do Ctrl+PrtScr but that did not help also. I still do not know what these options in KWin are. I have decided to go with the old-fashion-way : ksnapshot. This useful application has to be installed first. Here how it is done on ArchLinux

Next we need to associate the Print Screen button with ksnapshot. First we go to the Application Launcher Menu -> Settings -> System Settings
Make screenshots under KDE 4.3 and ArchLinux
Next we go to Input Actions
Make screenshots under KDE 4.3 and ArchLinux
You have to check the boxes for Preset Actions and its child PrintScreen. That was it.
