In 3D Studio MAX you can make anything what you can imagine. After hard work and many years of practice you can make models hardly for distinguish from real photo or even they can’t be recognized. In this tutorial we will show you may be the easiest method for making 3D vase.

Lets start from Create / Shapes / Splines / Line.

Draw some line with shape like showed on the picture. It is not important to keep the exact shape, but similar will be good.

You can see that this is half section of the vase which can be rotated around left axis â€" like pottery.

Next go to Modify, click on + in front of the Line to expand her main parts and select Vertex. Now right click on bottom right vertex in view port and choose Bezier from this menu. Next set the right tangent to be horizontal and longer upon on your chose. Please keep the bottom part of vase to be more slant.

When you finish do this for remainig vertex to get shape like shown on next screens.

Now click on spline in modifier list, and select your line. This will make entire line to be selected in red color. Expand geometry Tab and click on Outline. Now click and hold on the line and move your mouse in top direction.

You will see duplicated line close to your original line. Now you have internal and external wall of your vase. The space between them define the thickness of vase. Move your mouse until you get the desired thickness.

Now you have finished shape of half section of the vase. Let’s pottery!

Click on Line in Modifier List to unselect Spline editing mode and open the Modifier List listing. Click on Lathe. You will something like screen below. Don’t scare, now we set this and it will be ok.

Click on upper left corner of view port (where is type Front), go to Views, choose Perspective. Now you get volume 3D view of your vase.

Now we have to set radius of the vase. To do this expand Lathe modifier and click on Axis. Now move yellow axis by X or Y direction to specify how obese you want to be a vase. Next set Segments: 32 to get more smooth vase.

Go to upper right corner in view port and right click. Select Smooth + Highlights.
You have successfully finished your first vase in 3D Studio MAX!
