In our collection of 3D Studio MAX Tutorials now I will show you very powerful and easy to use physique simulation system - Reactor. This Reactor system includes many Collections of appliers which can be applied to any objects in the scene. Rigid Body for hard material objects, Soft Body for soft material objects, Rope Collection, Cloth, etc. Also can be used other Reactor helpers like Spring, Motor, Wind, Fracture, etc.

In this tutorial I will show you how to use Soft Body Reactor on simple scene with boxes which fall on one another and next they shake like jelly from the fallowing.

First, lets prepare the scene from three boxes. One for the floor and the others two box one over the other to fall off and to hit each other. Set this two boxes to be with more segments to take shaking when hit.

Next apply Noise modifier with fractal checkbox for this two boxes. By this way they will get more realistic shape. Now apply Reactor Soft Body modifier for the two boxes and set some suitable Mass value like shown on the picture below. At the end apply MeshSmooth modifier for more smoothness on the boxes.

Now apply Rigid Body Reactor Collection on the box for the floor and set higher Mass value, Unyielding checkbox to be checked and select Mesh Convex Hull radio buton like shown on the picture bellow.

If you want yo can set same jelly-like materials to get more realistic scene. When you are ready you can render your scene to see the final result.

This is a good start for a tutorial but there are several parts missing.. How do you get the boxes to fall? In the preview of the reactor it only shows the floor and not the falling boxes.

      1. When you set a Mass value for each box this mean, that the box have a weight and after starting simulation they will fall down on the floor.

      2. Play the preview from that start and look carefully to see the falling boxes.
